The Housing Minister is dismissing criticism of a new computer system which some insiders say isn't needed.
Labour MP Moana Mackey is questioning how much is being spent on the IT upgrade and thinks the official price tag of $10 million could be well short of the mark due to rising costs.
But Maurice Williamson says the work was initiated by Labour when it was in office and should have been done years ago when the government was running a surplus.
The minister says it's incredible Housing New Zealand has been coping with gear it has had since 1993. He says from what he has seen it's woefully inadequate for the demands the corporation faces.
