The Prime Minister has confirmed a change in ministerial portfolios because of the Christchurch earthquake.
John Key confirmed Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee will focus solely on that role.
He said the scale of the earthquake which struck on Tuesday means that it requires the full attention of a dedicated Minister.
"There is a very big job ahead of us and it's important we have a senior Minister dedicated solely to it," Key said.
"The government is going to do everything it can to support the recovery and rebuilding of Christchurch."
Brownlee will get support from an associate minister, Maurice Williamson and his other portfolios will be reallocated to other ministers.
