Act MP Heather Roy has announced she will be retiring at this year's election.
Roy first stood for Act in 1999 and entered Parliament three years later as an MP.
She was the 80th woman to enter the House of Representatives.
Roy said in a statement today that he original goal was to be an MP for three terms.
"That time has now come," she said.
She described the past nine years as a "fast-paced journey comprising excitement, disappointment, enjoyment and angst". Roy was rolled as Deputy leader of the party last year after challenging the leadership of former leader Rodney Hide.
In the statement Roy said she was signalling her intention to resign now so that leader Don Brash has plenty of time to build the rest of his team before the election in November.
She said she was proud of her successful amendments to the Justice bill, the creation of the Aspire Scholarships and the set-up of reviews of special education and consumer law.
Roy hopes her bill to make Student Union Membership voluntary will pass before the election.
