Applications for Act's candidate for Epsom close today.
The central Auckland electorate is currently represented by former leader Rodney Hide who was ousted as leader of the party last month.
Former Auckland Mayor John Banks has put his name forward to represent the seat.
The 64-year-old said last month he was seeking to return to parliament under the banner of a Don Brash-led Act Party because he wants to keep contributing after a lifetime of public service.
"I want to play a role. I want to contribute. I think New Zealand is in a critical financial predicament and Act and its policies can substantially help this government get through all of our problems. So I'm putting my hand up to help out."
Banks and new act leader Don Brash are both former National Party MPs.
