The Act Party has named its candidate for the Mount Albert seat in the upcoming by-election.

List MP John Boscawen will be standing in the election for former prime minister Helen Clark's seat.

Boscawen is best known for his active campaigning against the Electoral Finance Act. He says Clark served the electorate loyally but it is now anyone's.

Boscawan says there was only a small difference between Labour and National's party vote at the general election, and the seat is a real opportunity for Act.

Green Party co-leader Russell Norman is the only other candidate announced for the seat so far.

Labour is expected to announce their candidate on Sunday.

The by-election will be held on June 13.
