60TH ANNIVERSARY OF SIR EDMUND HILLARY
SATURDAY 25 MAY AND WEDNESDAY 29TH MAY
TVNZ Heartland is celebrating the anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary’s conquest of Everest on 29 May 1953, with a raft of in-depth programmes celebrating the man and the legend. Beginning with Good Day – Sir Edmund Hillary (Saturday 25 May, 6.30pm), a revealing 1979 interview with Sir Edmund about his book 'From The Ocean To The Sky.' Next Encounter – Sir Edmund Hillary (Saturday 25 May, 8pm), uncovers Hillary's remarkable work in Nepal, from the building of an airstrip to a hospital. Then, Off The Beaten Track (Saturday 25 May, 8.30pm), gives an intimate look at Sir Edmund Hillary as he goes on a journey to remote New Zealand. On the date of the anniversary, Hillary On Everest (Wednesday 29 May, 7.30pm) offers a definitive account of one of the world’s greatest explorers and adventurers, a true Kiwi, with Sir Edmund Hillary talking candidly about his life and the events that made him famous.
