Li Ming Hu
Actress, writer and musician
Kiwi actress Li Ming has had roles on a number of shows
including Spin Doctors, Xena: Warrior Princess and a presenting
role on the now-defunct Max TV. It wasn't until her Shortland
Street debut in 2003 though that she became a household
name.
Petite Li Ming is much softer than Shortland Street
alter ego Li Mei Chen - the hard-nosed and brittle doctor with the
bedside manner of a steamroller - a role she played with gusto for
three years. Li Ming loved the part, but won't be returning
after exiting the show last year when her character died
suddenly of a rare virus (though she did find her inner humanity
first!)
That doesn't mean, however, that her presence isn't still very
much felt on New Zealand's favourite soap. Although she doesn't
appear on screen she's returned to the show as a writer. A natural
student, Li Ming has as a Masters Degree in History from Auckland
University where she helped to tutor.
Keyboard player in a band called the Tokey Tones, she's pretty
non-commital about a new exercise regime back home.
"I think I'll take away just a whole new set of experiences really. A whole new set of memories. I think maybe I might be a bit more active when I get home and I don't know, exercise more, enrol in some pilates."
