Dale Warrander pipped Phil Costley to take out the men's title in the Auckland Marathon today.
Warrander, arguably the best marathon runner in the country, finished the race in 2h 24m 42s under clear skies around Auckland's North Shore and the central city.
In the women's event, Lisa Robertson came in first with a time of 2h 41m 56s, setting a new course record for the women's race, despite the warm conditions.
Stephen Lett and Danielle Ingram-Trevis won the half marathon championship titles.
Lett, from Auckland won his third New Zealand title for 2011, recording 1hr 7m 38s, 2m 7s ahead of fellow Aucklander Scott Winton, with another 15s back to Stefan Smith of Wellington.
Ingram-Trevis repeated her victory in the Auckland event and
took the national title in 1h 18m 36s, 1m 12s ahead of Sally Gibbs
of Tauranga and 35s back to Gaby O'Rourke of Wellington.
