David Tua's world title aspirations got a huge boost on Wednesday night when he defeated Friday the 13th Ahunanya in a bout that went 12 rounds.

The judges were unanimous in their scoring, handing Tua a straightforward victory despite having to work hard for it.

The fight started on even terms with round one a toss up between the two.

But Tua took charge from the second round on, producing an intelligent fight which mixed heavy body blows with devastating head shots.

Tua controlled the fight throughout but never managed to really hurt his Nigerian opponent.

Ahunanya was sound defensively, but struggled to land any punches of his own.

"He was more than what I expected, however we were better prepared," Tua said after the fight.

"We didn't get the knockout, but we look forward to the next one.

"Tonight, i'm going to Burger King!."
