Top South Island-trained mare Final Touch added another Group 1 win to her trophy cabinet, when she stylishly won the $200,000 Waikato Draught Sprint at Te Rapa yesterday.

It followed Final Touch's earlier Group 1 successes this season in the Captain Cook Stakes and Telegraph Handicap, both at Trentham.

Trainer Karen Parsons says taking Final Touch to the beach has been a key ingredient in her success.

"I go to the track, and I see all the track-trained horses jumping and leaping about, but every day is a cruise for her at the beach.

"She walks in the water, wanders around and rolls in the sand. She has a good life."

Parsons said it was nearly time for a summer holiday for Final Touch. The Haunui Farm Classic (1600m) at Otaki on February 23 might be her final outing of the season.

"Winning three Group 1 races in a season is a tremendous feat and to pick up a fourth will be incredible," she said. "Another honey of a win - it's just unbelieveable."

Winning jockey Chris Johnson said: "Horses like that make it easy for the jockeys.

"She has that acceleration that others don't."

Xanadu rattled home late over teh 1400m for another group placing, while Zurella staged a withering finish for third.
