New Zealander Angela Smit was among the fastest qualifiers over 800m at the world junior athletics championships in Moncton, Canada this morning (NZT).
The Canterbury runner clocked two minutes 7.13 seconds to win the second of five heats, among the quickest time in the first round of racing.
"I felt really good, just sitting in behind for the first lap and I thought I'd push a little when I came down the home stretch," she said.
"It was really close though, just to make sure that I was in the top four. I just wanted to get to the finals."
Smit has more in the tank, having run nearly 4sec quicker when setting her personal best two weeks ago.
