After a serious bout of pneumonia, Hayden Shaw is thrilled to be back for the Black Sticks World Cup qualifier against Malaysia.

A familiar face will be back in action on Tuesday night for the New Zealand men's hockey team.

Drag-flick expert Hayden Shaw has been included in the side for the World Cup qualifier in Invercargill, returning after a serious case of pneumonia.

Shaw is pleased to be back in the Black Sticks line-up, but says he will not be a playing full game.

He says he won't be 100 percent fit but is hoping to be as close as possible to that.

A week ago the 29-year-old could only run for two minutes but two days ago that was up to 15 minutes, so he is definitely on the improve.

The match gets underway at 6:05pm.
