The organisers of the 2010 Rowing World Champs are looking to surpass all previous events; at least with their promotional tool.

They have launched the RowBox in the Hamilton CBD on Tuesday.

It is a retractable 20-foot container with four rowing machines connected to a display of Lake Karapiro.

CEO Tom Mayo says they are taking the container on a three month world tour.

Mayo says no one has ever done anything like this in rowing before, and they've just handed out a magazine and said "come to our country".

Tuesday's inaugural race saw Mahe Drysdale victorious, followed by Emma Twigg, Rowing New Zealand President Lesley Milne and Hamilton mayor Bob Simcock.
