Filipino Manny Pacquiao claimed a unanimous points decision
victory over Ghanaian Joshua Clottey on Sunday to retain his WBO
welterweight title.
Pacquiao's speed and relentless punching proved too much for his
bigger opponent, who offered little attacking threat in front of
nearly 51,000 fans at Cowboys Stadium.
Clottey focused on keeping his hands held high in front of his
face to block his opponent's relentless attack in a lop-sided
contest.
One judge awarded every round to Pacquiao with the other two
giving a 119-109 verdict.
"He's very, very fast," Clottey said of his opponent. "I tried to
catch him up and then when I get to him, he's strong
too."
The challenger did land some blows, with a left uppercut followed
by a heavy left hook in the 10th round but Pacquiao quickly
regained his poise as Clottey failed to follow up.
Pacquiao, considered the sport's best pound-for-pound fighter,
improved his record to 51-3-2 (38 knockouts) with Clottey dropping
to 35-4.
