The New Orleans Saints released veteran kicker John Carney on Wednesday in favour of second-year pro Garrett Hartley for the stretch drive.

Carney, 45, connected on 13 of 17 field-goal attempts and 50-of-52 extra-point attempts in 11 games for the Saints this season. New Orleans signed the 21-year NFL veteran after Hartley was suspended for the first four games of the season.

The Saints also released cornerback Marcus McCauley, signed safety Herana-Daze Jones and re-signed free agent fullback Kyle Eckel.
