Palmerston North apprentice Kelly Myers said the stormy weather prevailing at Saturday's Trentham meeting were the worst conditions she has ever ridden in.
Myers rode Propel to win one of the day's feature events, the $50,000 Hiremaster Event and Party Galaxy Stakes, but said she couldn't feel her hands throughout the race.
"My hands were numb with the cold which made it hard to pull the stick on him in the home straight," she said. "The weather was real horrible all day and it was hard to ride your horse out."
"It wasn't unsafe but it was a great effort by us jockeys to get through the whole day's racing," Myers said.
"I couldn't wait to get into the hot shower at the end of the day," she said.
Myers said Propel was anything but a winning chance with 500 metres to go in yesterday's 1400m race.
"He was battling 500m out from home but he kept fighting and steadily made headway in the home straight. He dug real deep in the final 200m," Myers said.
"He was stepping up in class again today but he does handle heavy ground very well," she said.
Myers took her total number of wins this season up to 60 with two wins on Saturday, her other success coming aboard The Brown Bomber in the Upper Hutt Cossie Club 1200.
Propel has won five races from only 15 starts and is trained at Awapuni by Mark Oulaghan.
The Lord Ballina six-year-old gelding won by a half-head from Ease Hours while there was one length back to third-placed O'Ceirins Angel.
