Maz Quinn storms to the lead

Raglan surfers Maz Quinn and Jessica Santorik have dominated proceedings at the second round of the national surfing series at Whangamata which ended on Monday.

Quinn's victory in the men's final saw him leap into the series lead from 13th position while Santorik who also won the first round of the series, extended her lead in the women's competition.

Quinn scored 15.0 points in the final to beat Raglan surfer Leon Santorik who totalled 12.55. Whangamata's Gauranga Ormond was third.

Santorik posted 14.0 points out of a possible 20 in the women's final to head off Christchurch surfer Daisy Thomas and Raglan's Alexis Poulter into second and third respectively.

Men's semifinals

Heat 1: Maz Quinn (Gisborne) 1, Chris Malone (Gisborne) 2, Jay Quinn (Gisborne) 3, Tim O'Connor (Mt Maunganui) 4
Heat 2: Gauranga Ormond (Whangamata) 1, Leon Santorik (Raglan) 2, Tane Wallis (Piha) 3, Luke Cederman (Rag) 4
Final: Maz Quinn 1, Santorik 2, Ormond 3, Malone 4.

Women's semifinals

Heat 1: Jayda Martin-Fitzharris (Gisborne) 1, Daisy Thomas (Christchurch) 2, Kelly Clarkson (Raglan) 3, Laura Rishworth (Mt Maunganui) 4
Heat 2: Alexis Poulter (Raglan) 1, Jessica Santorik (Rag) 2, Rosa Thompson (Aucklan) 3, Ella Williams (Whmata) 4
Final: Santorik 1, Thomas 2, Poulter 3, Martin-Fitzharris 4.
