The Minnesota Vikings could have an even better running game next season with reports LaDainian Tomlinson is set to meet with the club on Friday.
Tomlinson was released by the San Diego Chargers more than a week ago and now has the task of courting new NFL teams to sign him.
While the Vikings already have arguably the best running back in the league in Adrian Peterson, they have lost powerful back-up Chester Taylor to the Chicago Bears.
The loss of Taylor, while it doesn't seem a huge deal, does
decrease depth in the back-field and would put more pressure on
Peterson unless the Vikes sign a quality replacement.
The Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs have already expressed
some interest with the versatile veteran.
But Tomlinson says his priority is to win a title, something he never achieved in nine years with the Chargers. The Vikings are realistically the only team of the three who could make a tilt for the Super Bowl championship.
"This is not the end of the road at all," he told a press conference after being released.
"I'm not retiring. So I am very excited. I really believe I am going to have that opportunity to win a championship."
Tomlinson is eighth on the NFL's all-time rushing list with
12,490 yards while his 138 career rushing touchdowns ranks second,
and his 153 total touchdowns ranks third.
The Vikings are also still sweating on quarterback Brett
Favre's decision on whether or not he will retire after coming
within just one win of the Super Bowl.
