Kiwi rowers bow out of world champs

New Zealand suffered their first eliminations from the rowing rowing world championships in Poznan, when two inexperienced crews failed to advance through repechanges.

The lightweight men's four and women's quadruple sculls both missed out on berths in their semifinals by one place in cut-throat races at Poznan.

The men's crew of Richard Beaumont, Todd Petherick, James Lassche, Graham Oberlin-Brown were a narrow fourth in their repechage in a time of six minutes 05.82 seconds.

They needed a top-three finish to advance.

The w omen's quad of Genevieve Armstrong, Louise Trappitt, Sarah Barnes, Harriet Austin needed a top-four finish but were fifth in 6min 35.81sec.

The other nine New Zealand crews have aleady reached semifinals, with seven of them in action on Thursday night.
