Linda Villumsen's 2013 experiment looks to have paid off.

New Zealand's leading female cyclist has claimed her fifth successive medal at the world championships, winning silver in the women's time trial in Florence.

After seven years riding in Europe, Villumsen decided to base herself in New Zealand this year, only heading overseas midway through the season.

The Netherlands' Ellen Van Dijk [dyke] won gold, finishing 24 seconds ahead of Villumsen, who now has won three bronze medals and two silver in the event.
