The Godfather of All Fight Nights from the Sky City
Convention City.
Main Event: Shane Cameron (NZ) v Monte Barrett (USA)
RD 4 - CAMERON WINS BY KO!
That is a massive punch and
the Mountain Warrior has caused a massive upset. Barrett leaned in
and got caught with a vicious right hand from Cameron. Did not see
that one coming. They were both looking for the same punch, but
Cameron got there first. The New Zealander was ecstatic as Barrett
was left out cold.
RD 3 - This fight doesn't look as though it is
going to go the distance. Cameron might have taken that one
too.
RD 2 -That one goes to Cameron. He rocked Barrett
at one stage with a massive right to the chin.
RD 1 - And the main event begins. Cameron came out as the clear crowd fav but Barrett, who is in bright red trunks, doesn't mind playing the villian. Pretty even first round, with only one moment of excitement when Cameron tackled Barrett into the ropes and Two Guns took exception.
Premier Undercard: Solomon Haumono (Aus) v Joey Wilson
(NZ)
RD 8 - Wilson may have won that final three
minutes and in fact, a number of rounds were tight. To the cards we
go...77-75 Wilson, 78-74 Haumono, 76-76 DRAW! Controversial for
sure...... maybe Haumono should talk to Manny Pacquiao.
RD 7 -
Haumono's break was brief... He came out in
round seven firing with some massive right hooks. His round
again, one to go.
RD 6 - Wilson came back well in that round, using
his reach to his advantage. Haumono's appears to be tiring.. this
fight ain't over yet!
RD 5 - Wilson is doing well to stay in this but in
all reality - he is a miles behind! Can Haumono end this fight
soon?
RD 4 - Wilson shows more game in this round but
only for a brief moment. The Aussie is throwing more punches and
you would have to say he is well on top here.
RD 3 -
Haumono senses death and comes out with intent.
The round then takes on a snails pace again but it is Haumono's
round once more.
RD2 - Another tame round comes to life when
Haumono unleashes and brings a standing eight count. This fight
might not see the distance....
RD 1 - The man who should have fought SBW for the
NZ championship, Joey Wilson, is quiet against the fomer Manly
star. A few jabs are thrown but it is Haumono's round.
Undercard 1: Joseph Parker (NZ) v Dean Garmonsway
RD2 - TKO Parker! The young Kiwi was getting
frustrated with the holding tactics, that would usually be called
in the amateur ranks, but he slowly worked his way into the round
and ended the fight with venom. A massive combo jolted back
Garmonsway and then with his back turned a massive right hook,
that didn't actually connect, was the last act. Garmonsway, who had
never been knocked out before, then pulled the plug, knowing he was
beat. Good first pro fight for Parker and he thanked the guy above
for his impressive showing. AMEN!
RD1 - The next great NZ hope, sponsored by Sir Bob
Jones, who is ringside, controls the round with a good jab before
some sharp upper-cuts in the last minute brings the pain. Parker's
round for sure
Undercard 2: Jesse Ryder v Mark Watson
RD1 -
Ryder comes out aggresive and floors the former
triathlete within 30 seconds. Waston, whose mantra is excellence
over medocrity, looked very much the latter. Jesse chased him and a
massive combo bought a standing eight count. Watson scared at this
point, is backing off and one more barrage of punches ends the
fight. The big mouth has been shut up for good!
Ryder says he "can now move on with his life" and is "keen to get
back into cricket." But one gets the feeling, this won't be
his last fight.
Cops arrive!
As Winston Peters, Willie Jackson and Simon Dallow exchange
plesantaries the men in blue arrive to scope out the scene. Barely
a soul notices them but us media-types (cringe) can always smell a
story so nautrally I walked over to find out what the deal was.
Were they coming to see if Jamie had really won or was this a
legitimate surveillance? Turns out they think there was a chance
gang members could be hanging out here, afterall, gangs and
fighting go hand-in-hand! Fair enough I thought as
I walked off feeling a little bit safer.....
Undercard 3: Jaime Ridge (NZ) v Rosanna Arkle (Aus)
RD3 Ridge wins in a unanimous points
decision. She just had too much size for Arkle in the end and used
a solid overhand right punch to good effect. Both fighters looked
shattered in that final round. Credit to both
girls!
Ridge went to embrace her mother Sally immediately after the fight, as filming for their reality television show continued. Who can't wait for that.....!
RD2 The girls are exhausted! Again Arkle
came out flying but Ridge absorbed her weak blows and finished
strong. Ridge slightly ahead.
RD1 Miss Arkle came out flying but Ridge slowly
came back. The amount of punches thrown was hectic, so hectic they
are going to get tired! Even round.
The girls' fight, which is the most anticipated according to our
readers (says heaps about them, no offence) are up very soon and I
actually caught Miss Arkle, from that smash hit show not so long
ago and got her thoughts before her showdown with ex-miss
SBW.
SHE said get on $2.40! Jamie has just come out to the ring and
embraced her mum and we are ready to go! BTW Jamie got a bigger
cheer than Miss Arkle. There was some drama before the fight
as veteran boxing referee Lance Revill had to delay the opening of
the fight as Arkle's blue bikini had left her naval piercing
exposed, forcing her trainers to cover it with
tape.
Undercard 4: Daniel McKinnon (NZ) v Taito Raturere
RD1
TKO to McKinnon! It was a much more cautious
beginning from these two fighters but a nasty hook from McKinnon
dropped his foe and the standing eight count prompted the corner to
chuck in the towel. OVER! And next we have the girls!
Undercard 5: Isaac Peach (NZ) v James Uoka (NZ)
RD4 -
TKO to Peach in the fourth and final round! Uoka
sensed he needed a KO so came out flying but Peach came back
harder with a barrage of punches on the corner post. Calls from the
coperate tables to end the fight gave the ref no choice but
to call curtains. Good first bout with some cracking
blows!
Peach shows some good humour in the interview saying his family
from out west weren't here tonight "because they couldn't afford
tickets."
RD3 - Peach is looking for the killer blow
in this round and one massive right nearly floored his opponent who
has never won a professional fight. Just a matter of time maybe
with the final round to come
RD2 - Peach is on top here - no doubt
about it! The tatted up fighter, hailing from West Auckland, is
throwing more punches and some of them with venom.
RD1 - Peach plays the agressor and controls
the first round with some lusty blows and combos. Definitely his
round.
7pm - Spot the 'celebrity'
Ok I have hustled myself into a ringside seat and the
first fight is just about to go down between Isaac Peach and James
Uoka. So far I have spotted former Warriors coach Tony Kemp, Inga
the Winger, Dobbo, Sally Ridge and the KFC girls so naturally
it is all pretty exciting......
6:30pm - Good evening - am I underdressed?
Good evening and welcome to our live updates of the
Godfather of All Fight Nights. Say what you about this event which
mixes the serious with the frivolous, the vicious with the sexy,
the hype with the media and sorts of other superlative stuff but
this is event that promise entertain and you can't argue with that.
Can you? Besides, I have never been to a circus before!
Now I have just arrived at the Sky Centre Convention Centre and
unfortunately my jeans, dress shoes and collared shirt just ain't
cutting it. The girls who have arrived are all glam while the men
are strictly - black bow tie. Craig Stanaway clearly got the memo
but where was my mine?
Nevertheless the fighters are arriving and there is good nervous
energy flowing on up this muggy third floor. First fight is at 7pm
between Isaac Peach and James Uoka (who?) so I promise this will be
the last update about me.....
