World road cycling champion Cadel Evans will ride in next year's Tour Down Under in Adelaide with his BMC Racing Team accepting a wildcard entry to the race.

Evans has just signed with the second tier US team which does not guarantee him entry to the some of the world's biggest races.

But South Australian Premier Mike Rann said on Thursday BMC had offered tour organisers a verbal agreement to ride in January on a wildcard entry and negotiations will continue to sign-off on the deal.

It will allow Evans to ride in Australia in his rainbow jersey as the current world champion.

The 32-year-old said he was looking forward to the race.

"It's a privilege to be able to present my new jersey and my new BMC Racing Team to the Australian public and the rest of the world at the Tour Down Under in January," Evans said in a statement.

Rann said the 2010 event would now feature both Evans and Tour de France legend Lance Armstrong, the American riding with his new RadioShack team.

"This may be the only chance to see two legends, in Lance Armstrong and Cadel Evans, compete against one another on Australian soil," Rann said.
