Richard Collet remains in contention for back-to-back titles at the national bowls championships in Wellington.

Collet is through to the final 16 in the men's singles, where he'll face club mate David Eades.

He says its great to get to last 16 and still be in with a chance at another crack at the title.

Double world champion Gary Lawson has been the major casualty in the men's singles, losing to his former New Zealand pairs partner Kelvin Scott.

In the women's pairs, the veteran combination of Jan 1/8Jarn 3/8 and Marina Khan have been sent packing by Lois Ritson and Cathy Andrews.
