Triple Olympic champion Usain Bolt will compete in a street race over 150 metres at the Great City Games in Manchester on May 17, race organisers said on Thursday.
It will be the 22-year-old Jamaican's first race on European soil this year and he will run on a specially constructed track in the city centre.
"I am very excited to compete for my first time in Manchester, my first time in a 150 metres race and my first time in a street race outside the stadium," Bolt, quoted by website www.greatrun.org, told organisers Nova International.
"When I heard about the idea I thought it would be great fun and something new and exciting."
The appearance of Bolt, who became the first man to complete an Olympic 100 and 200 double with two world-record times in Beijing before helping Jamaica to a third gold in the 4x100 relay, is expected to attract thousands of fans to Manchester.
Bolt's presence will be the second by a top name in the city on May 17 as earlier in the day Ethiopia's world marathon record holder Haile Gebrselassie will be bidding to regain his Great Manchester Run title in a record field of 33,000 runners over 10 kilometres.
