Bolt beats Messi, Federer to top award

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt and American tennis player Serena Williams scooped the major gongs at the 2010 Laureus sports awards in Abu Dhabi on Thursday

Bolt was named sportsman of the year after winning three gold medals at the athletics world championships and setting world records in the 100 and 200 metres.

Williams won the sportswoman of the year award after reclaiming top sport in the world tennis rankings as well as winning Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

Brawn GP has been named team of the year, while Formula One world champion Jenson Button has received the breakthrough of the year award.

Belgian tennis player Kim Clijsters has won the comeback of the year award.

    I think Roger Federer deserves it. The man has not only surpassed all the greats of tennis, he's entered a whole new stratosphere. All the other nominees pale, even Usain, when compared to the FedExpress!

    Got to be Messi. He lead Barca to six titles in the world's most popular game. As for Fed, he should get the womens award for crying like a little baby when Nadal beat him Oz last year.
