New Zealand went down 4-1 to Holland on Saturday in India.
It was the same score as last time the Black Sticks played the Dutch but it was a much improved performance, and the result could have been closer.
It was nil all up until the 24th minute when the Black Sticks conceded a reverse stick field goal from the top of the circle.
The Dutch went 2-0 up in the 31st minute following a goal-mouth melee and this was the score going into halftime.
In the second half the Dutch went 3-0 up in the 41st minute from a PC direct hit.
The Kiwis fought back well and Nick Haig scored his first goal for his country with a well taken drag flick from a PC in the 63rd minute.
There were further opportunities for both sides and New Zealand had a goal disallowed which seemed to slow the momentum of the Black Sticks.
The Dutch then went further ahead in the 69th minute with a deflection from a strong ball into the circle.
James Nation played his 100th game for New Zealand and was one of the top performers in his milestone game.
Nick Haig also played well, capped off by his well taken PC.
Overall the team provided an improved performance, continuing to develop with better continuity and structure as the new players meld into the side.
