Lost damsel joins Once Upon A Time
We've met Snow White, Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood so far and this week Beauty and the Beast's Belle finally joins the residents of Fairy Tale land.
Belle is played by Australian actor Emilie de Ravin, best-known as Claire on Lost.
Emilie admits she wasn't fascinated by fairytales as a child,
telling the US TV Guide she preferred "Hitchcock and
murder-mystery documentaries."
But after filming for Once Upon a Time wrapped, she immediately
went back and watched the Disney classic of Beauty and the
Beast.
"It's very beautiful," she says. "Belle's gorgeous gold and blue outfits as well as the shiny dark hair were definitely influences for [the shows] costume and hair departments. They made me a beautiful wig."
Just as in the classic tale, the growth of her relationship with the Beast will feature strongly in the episode. But in Once Upon A Time, there's always a twist and viewers will be surprised to see the Beast is someone we already know.
"It's all very sweet," says de Ravin. "There's a lot of
trepidation as to how he's going to act around her, but after a few
days, he starts becoming bemused at how relaxed she
becomes."
de Ravin adds that Belle "starts to bring out some joy in him he
hasn't experienced. Even something small, like being touched
on the arm, is huge for him."
But as we've learnt so far in Once Upon A Time, there isn't always a happy ending even in Fairy Tale land. de Ravin revealing, "things don't always end up happy with a dance or a song."
Tune in to this week's episode of Once Upon A Time, Thursday 27th April at 8.30pm, to see how Belle and Beast's story will play out and read the original fairytale here .
