How New Zealand athletes fared at the Olympics on day six:

ROWING - GOLD for men's double scullers NATHAN COHEN and JOSEPH SULLIVAN.

PETER TAYLOR and STORM URU are second in their semi-final to make the final; women's single sculler EMMA TWIGG cruises into her final by finishing third in her semi; the men's four of SEAN O'NEILL, CHRIS HARRIS, TYSON WILLIAMS and JADE URU miss the final after finishing fourth in their semi.

World record-holding lightweight women's double scullers LOUISE AYLING and JULIA EDWARD can't make their final after placing fifth in the semi.

EQUESTRIAN - Rider Louisa Hill is 23rd after the first day of the individual dressage.

SWIMMING - LAUREN BOYLE is second in her 800m freestyle heat to qualify fifth for the final on Friday; MELISSA INGRAM falls agonisingly short of a spot in the semis of the 200m backstroke to be 0.03s outside the last qualifying spot.

DANIEL BELL is 37th fastest in the heats of the 100m butterfly.

SAILING - 470 crew PAUL SNOW-HANSEN and JASON SAUNDERS are fourth after their first day of racing; 49er pair PETER BURLING and BLAIR TUKE slip to 3rd overall.

Windsurfer JP TOBIN stays in sixth after six races; DAN SLATER returns to racing after a rest day and drops a place to eight.

HAMISH PEPPER and JIM TURNER in the 49er go the other way picking up a place to be seventh after eight races; the women's match racing crew of STEPHANIE HAZARD, JENNA HANSEN and SUSANNAH PYATT lose both races to slip to eighth.

CANOE SLALOM - LUUKA JONES is 14th in the women's canoe slalom missing out on the final.

CYCLING - The men's team sprint of EDDIE DAWKINS, SIMON VAN VELTHOOVEN and ETHAN MITCHELL break their NZ record to finish fifth; SAM BEWLEY, WESTLEY GOUGH, MARC RYAN and JESSE SERGENT qualify third fastest in the team pursuit.

HOCKEY - The Black Sticks women lost their 100 per cent record after a 2-1 defeat by Argentina. A CHARLOTTE HARRISON goal brought them back into the match but they could't find an equaliser.
