Opals star Liz Cambage has laughed off suggestions she took a swipe at swimmer Stephanie Rice over her purported fling with married US basketballer Kobe Bryant.
Speculation has run rampant that Rice and Bryant have drummed up a romance during their time in London, with the pair spotted together at at least two Olympic events.
The rumours went into overdrive when Cambage appeared to pass comment on their alleged relationship.
"I love how Kobe has his wife with him at the Olympics, yet still surrounded by groupies!!!" Cambage tweeted yesterday.
"Some women need to get a grip, ASAP!"
But the 20-year-old today hit back at claims the comments were directed at her compatriot Rice.
"LOL media makes me laugh, I never named anyone? LETS GO BOOMERS, goodnight everyone xxx."
Cambage made global headlines after a rare Olympic slam-dunk in the Opals' quarterfinal victory over China.
She became a hot topic on Twitter and even got a nod from American basketball star Kevin Durant.
"@ecambage ok I see u with the nice one hand jam!! Congrats on the win" he tweeted.
Averaging more than 14 points and six rebounds per game at the Olympics, Cambage has been a standout during the Opals' campaign.
The Opals face reigning gold medallists the US in the semifinals in the early hours of Friday morning.
Meanwhile, Olympic champions Laura Trott and Jason Kenny were revealed as British cycling's new golden couple after photographs of the pair kissing were published in newspapers today.
"So, yes, it is out there, me and @JasonKenny107 are dating. Been a little while now, just didn't want the distraction before the games x," Trott told her 66,000 followers on Twitter.
Both are London double gold medallists - Trott added the omnium title on Tuesday to the one she won in the team pursuit, while Kenny won track sprint gold on Monday after also winning the team sprint.
"Laura's hot to Trott," declared the mass-circulation Sun newspaper, after the couple were shown swigging from bottles of beer next to Prince Harry, and sitting just behind former England soccer captain David Beckham and his sons at a women's beach volleyball match.
"Gold me Close" read the front-page headline over a photograph of the pair with lips puckered and eyes closed.
Newspapers said the gold medallists had emerged from the arena hand-in-hand after the bronze playoff between Brazil and China.
"These things are always very tricky after copious amounts of alcohol have been taken," Kenny was quoted as saying when asked whether they were "an item".
