Erakovic's Olympic selection pushed back

Published: 7:47AM Friday June 15, 2012 Source: ONE Sport

New Zealand tennis number one Marina Erakovic's hopes of competing at the London Olympics have taken another blow.

The New Zealand Olympic Committee has yet to given Erakovic the all clear to represent New Zealand and a 2-6 6-1 6-3 loss to Russian eighth seed and number 54 Ekaterina Makarova at the Birmingham Open certainly won't have helped her cause.

The world number 46 and ninth seed has to prove she can make the last 16 at the Olympics and recent victories over world number four Victoria Azeranka and world number 15 Sabine Lisicki shows she is capable.

The top 56 players after the French Open are guaranteed entry to the women's singles draw. With a maximum of four players per country, Erakovic should comfortably make the cut.

A decision on Erakovic's selection has been pushed back to the 22nd of June by the NZOC.
