The New Zealand men's hockey team's slim hopes of making the semi-finals at the London Olympics are over after being held to a 1-1 draw by Belgium.

Sunday's result means the Kiwis have no chance of filling one of the top two spots in Pool B and progressing to the next round.

The match was scoreless at halftime and Belgium struck first after the break via Tom Boon 13 minutes into the half, scooping the ball over Kyle Pontifex in the Black Sticks' goal.

Nick Wilson levelled matters six minutes later with a piece of individual brilliance, beating two defenders and slipping the ball past goalkeeper Vincent Vanasch.

Vanasch could only look on in the final minute as Andy Hayward's shot from a penalty corner cannoned into a post.

New Zealand have four points from their four matches with a win, draw and two losses and face Germany in their final match on Tuesday.

The Germans and Netherlands are assured of places in the semi-finals with 100 per cent record from their three matches.
