Will Emma be lucky in love?
Debbie Newby-Ward lets us into some secrets for the upcoming year on Nothing Trivial.
Until meeting Brian, Emma has been unlucky in love. Tell
us about their relationship.
We begin the season with Brian and Emma blissfully in
love, it is early days and they are enjoying the 'Honeymoon
period.' A bomb is dropped early in the piece and by the end
of episode one we discover Brian's not so distant past has caught
up with him. So begins the first challenge of their
relationship!
What obstacles will Emma and Brian's relationship
face?
There are major ones like birth and death to more
domestic issues like Brian meeting the parents, decisions on how to
financially function as a couple and friends from the past bringing
challenges and temptations.
What else is Emma's focus this season?
Emma is learning to stand up for herself and be less of a
pushover! She is forced to deal with some great challenges in her
personal life so of course there are times when it spills over into
her work life. This comes to a head when an over-opinionated
relief teacher arrives on the scene. Emma eventually decides to
stand up for the greater well-being of her students and herself!
The mouse may get a chance to roar.
What have you most enjoyed about series 2?
Emma has such a huge journey this season! All that
she has to overcome and embrace has been a wonderfully terrifying
challenge. Each time we got given new scripts I was blown
away.
What has been your favourite storyline?
I got a lot out of having Emma's parents introduced into
the show. It really helps flesh out your character and gives
you a deeper sense of belonging in the story world. Very
early in the season Emma has to deal with the sudden and unexpected
death of her mother. I am very close to my own mother, and was
quite surprised how confronting that material was.
What is the best piece of trivia you have picked
up?
My best friend is terrified of birds. If we go to the
park, I often have to be on bird watch! I learnt this season
that 'a fear of birds' is called ornithophobia.
How have you enjoyed working with various directors and
crew this year?
All our directors are so wonderful, each of them adding
their different flavour! The crew are so professional! It's like
clockwork on set.
