Yvette McCausland-Durie has survived another poor season at the Central Pulse and will coach the struggling trans-Tasman league team for another year.

After undergoing reviews with the franchise and Netball New Zealand, the former national under-21 coach said she will take the helm again next year and wants to set about building a strong side immediately.

"We need to get cracking with recruitment," McCausland-Durie told the Manawatu Standard.

"Certainly for us, we want to contract Silver Ferns, that's the first layer and we want to work back from there."

The Pulse finished ninth out of 10 teams in this year's championship, the first time they have avoided the wooden spoon in its three-year history.

While McCausland-Durie demanded more from her players next season, she said there were some improvements to be made by her.

"For me as a coach, I didn't think I was effective as I could've been," she said.

"I think it's making good decisions in the heat of battle. That's an area I know I can be better at."
