The Northern Mystics have won the race to sign Silver Ferns defender Anna Scarlett ahead of the next ANZ netball Championship season.

Having only announced her return to the sport a month ago the former Commonwealth Games gold medallist was being courted by several teams but has opted to sign on for the Mystics.

Joining the Mystics franchise completes Scarlett's recently announced homecoming to NZ netball following several seasons on the international beach volleyball circuit.

Scarlett has also returned to the Silver Ferns, hoping to add to the 39 caps she earned in her previous tenure with the team.

Mystics CEO Mark Cameron said the team is excited to welcome the 27-year-old to its ranks ahead of the 2011 season.

"Anna is an experienced and talented netballer who has returned to the sport with passion and a hunger to succeed.

"Our aim for the upcoming season is to continue to build on the improvements we made this year, and welcoming Anna is a big step forward in achieving that goal.

"I am confident that her joining the Mystics will help build an even greater sense of determination within the team as we head into the 2011 season of the ANZ Championship," he said.

The Mystics have also announced Debbie Fuller will step-up from her assistant coaching position to become the team's head coach.
