A dynamic and spirited mid-courter, Leota, formerly known as Liana Barrett-Chase, presents challenges to defenders and attackers alike.
Leota made a memorable Test debut in 2008, playing with speed at Wing Attack to help the Silver Ferns defeat Australia in the first Test of the Series and became a regular in the squad before a calf strain ruled her out for the remaining two Tests in 2009.
After recovering from that injury, she was named in the Silver Ferns' touring squad for the World Netball Series and Tests against England and Jamaica.
In her third ANZ Championship season with Southern Steel Leota received the Most Valuable Player award. This year, her fourth season for the Steel, the midcourter has topped goal assists and centre pass receives and turnover ball for the Southern side.
