Thompson first made the Silver Ferns in 2008 when she was another one of the young girls to make the big step up from the 2005 Youth Championship winning New Zealand Under 21 side and join the attack of the national side.

She was named for the 2009 International Series against the World 7, and made her debut in the second Test of that Series on 26 August 2009. Although the young Goal Attack missed out on last year's squad, she has stood out in a struggling Canterbury side to make her comeback.

Thompson is picked for her play reading abilities, great sense of timing and her ever-improving accuracy in the goal circle. Prior to making the Silver Ferns she spent five years playing in the National Bank Cup and for NZA.

The talented 26-year-old has just finished her fourth season in the ANZ championship, this year featuring significantly in goal assists, centre pass receives and turnover ball. Thompson shot at 77.8% alongside Donna Wilkins in the year's championship.
