We spend an afternoon at the Croatian Cultural Society, getting an insight into what brought their early settlers to Aotearoa...

We celebrate Neighbour's Day with the Te Atatu locals, discover how Mexican food has gone mobile.... and we meet an Englishwoman – so fascinated by the flora and fauna of the area's unique peninsula that she made an amazing site-specific artwork as a tribute.

Marsella’s Guacamole

This week on Neighbourhood Marsella Macias brings her Mexican food cart to Te Atatu. She has shared her recipe for a classic Mexican Guacamole. Enjoy!

3 ripe avocados
1/4 cup chopped coriander
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 jalapeño - diced (you can substitute any other green chili or even use a dash of cayenne pepper instead)
1 tbsp of lime juice
salt to taste

Pit avocados into a bowl, add salt and lime juice, mash together. In separate bowl (or mortar) combine coriander, onions, and chilies, mash together, doing this will extract more flavor, especially the coriander.

Combine avocado mixture and coriander/onion mixture, can serve immediately or let chill for an hour. Serve with corn chips, or for healthier snack serve with sliced veggies (carrot sticks, celery sticks, cucumber)
