There are just seven finalists left in the Young Farmer of the Year contest in Gore from 300 starters.
Roared on by their fans, they are part of what is often regarded as the world's toughest farming contest.
Competitors give their blood and sweat as they go in search of not just the honour, but the hundred thousand dollars plus first prize.
With the practical tests behind them, tonight the Young Farmer of the Year finalists will find their farming knowledge under focus.
It's the televised question and answer session with the final airing live on TVNZ 6 at 7.30pm or delayed on TV One at 10.15pm tonight.
Organisor Gary Massicks says knowing only to fence properly will not get any of the finalists the top prize.
"We're not just making sure they can fence properly but they can handle staff, can they handle HR, can they do a financial plan and do they understand the impact that agriculture has on the environment," says Massicks.
But the contest is not just about the big boys; with children having their AgriKids event and a contest for teens being held also for the first time.
"We don't want to base it around farm kids. We want every kid that loves agriculture, that loves animals, loves being outside to get involved with AgriKids," says AgriKidsNZ organisor Chloe Gliddon.
