A young woman was raped in the early hours of Christmas Eve as she waited for a taxi in Auckland's CBD.
Police say the 24 year-old had been waiting on Albert Street at around 2am, hoping to flag down a cab.
Detective Senior Sergeant Andy King says he can't reveal how she came to be just around the corner in Mills Lane, where they believe the attack took place.
The woman is yet to complete a full interview with police, because she's been so traumatised by the event.
Police say they are concerned at the boldness of a sexual attack.
King says the woman doesn't know her attacker, which is uncommon as sexual attacks by strangers are rare.
Police are keen to hear from anyone who was in or around the area between 2am and 3am.
