A woman and an infant plunged to their deaths at an Auckland hotel this evening, police say.
The pair fell from Auckland Harbour Oaks Hotel and Apartment facilities on Gore Street, near the city centre, at about 5.22pm.
It is not known what the relationship between the two is, police said.
An eyewitness told ONE News that he heard an "explosive bang".
The man, who was staying at the hotel at the time, said it was "quite a nasty sight."
John Takerei, St John District Operations Manager, said ambulance services were alerted to the incident at 5.29pm.
"We sent an advanced life support ambulance crew and a team manager to the scene," he said.
Takerei said the female and young child fell "from a significant height", and both were deceased at the scene.
"We are providing support for our staff due to the traumatic nature of the incident."
He said he did not know the ages of the pair.
Police have secured the scene in the swimming pool area of the complex while inquiries are carried out.
The bodies of the two deceased will remain at the scene for some time until police complete a scene examination.
Auckland City Police communications manager Noreen Hegarty told ONE News she was unsure if there were any witnesses to the incident.
