Woman in hospital after being hit by train

A woman has been freed from a car after colliding with a train in South Canterbury this afternoon.

The crash occurred shortly before 2.30pm near Dunsandel.

The female patient has been flown by rescue helicopter to Christchurch Hospital.

A St John Ambulance spokeperson said the woman sustained moderate injuries from the incident.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Frasers Road, between Irvines Road and Main South Road.
