Wellington Police have upgraded the death of a woman whose body was found at the Newtown Park Flats to a homicide investigation.
The body of 42-year-old Allison McPhee was discovered on Wednesday afternoon and police say preliminary results of the post-mortem examination carried out last night suggest McPhee died a violent death.
"The scene examination in and around Flat 166 and the post-mortem examination are continuing today," said Acting Detective Inspector Scott Miller, head of the investigation.
Police believe the deceased was last seen on Thursday of last week.
Miller said an argument may have occurred at Flat 166 on Sunday night and anyone who has seen any activity around this address should phone police.
Police earlier said McPhee had just moved into the flats on Mansfield St and had already been in trouble with neighbours.
Police are talking to neighbours and other residents at the Newtown Park Flats today and this will continue over the weekend, Miller said.
Residents at Newtown Park Flats with any information can speak to an officer at the scene today and over the weekend or people can phone a free phone number set up today on 0800 2 PUAWAI (0800 2 782 924).
