Westpac rescue helicopter
A woman died and a man was flown to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on State Highway One on the Kapiti Coast.
The accident happened at 10.33am at the intersection of Otaihanga Road, near Paraparaumu.
The man was flown to Wellington Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and police say he is in stable condition.
Motorists should expect delays with State Highway One reduced to one lane.
Initially, all lanes of the road were closed while the police serious crash unit investigated the accident. North-bound traffic was backed up to Paraparaumu.
Kapiti Coast emergency medical services director Chris Lane, who was at the scene, said that one person had died and another was in a critical condition.
It was understood a car had crossed the centre line.
