Record numbers have turned up for Round the Bays fun run in Wellington.
The event welcomed its new principal sponsor AMI Insurance with a crowd of 11, 000 strong making it round the capital's bays. The previous record for this iconic Wellington fun run was 10,100.
And almost all of this year's winners trumped last year's winning times as well.
The New Balance Half Marathon, in its third year, had 1900 entrants this year, who took on the peninsula to Scorching Bay and back. The winners won a trip to Sydney to compete in the Sun-Herald City to Surf.
For the more social, they took a dip in the harbour on the way back from the 7km walk.
Team entries were also up this year with 300 teams compared to
170 last year.
All participants finished off a stunning day at Kilbirnie Park
where King Kapisi wound it down with some tunes.
Event Director Craig Ireson promised that "the profile of this event will continue to grow with the support of all of our sponsors."
The event raised over $9000 for Heart Foundation, who supplied volunteers.
Next year's Round the Bays fun run is set for February 19, 2012.
