Clayton Weatherston is believed to have been moved to a secure unit at Christchurch Men's Prison.

Weatherston spent his first night in prison as a convicted murderer on Wednesday, after being found guilty of murdering Sophie Elliott .

Newstalk ZB has reported that they were contacted by a man whose son is also in the prison.

The man says after lock-down on Wednesday night all the prisoners in the mainstream unit where Weatherston was being kept began taunting him verbally.

The man says when things escalated, Weatherston was moved to a segregated unit with 23 hour lock-down.

He says all the prisoners have televisions, they have watched the trial and that there is a price on Weatherston's head.

Corrections are yet to confirm this and they say they rarely comment on individual cases.
