Clayton Weatherston will take the stand for a fifth day at his High Court murder trial in Christchurch on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old admits killing former student girlfriend Sophie Elliott in January last year.

However, he claims he was provoked and is guilty of manslaughter rather than murder.

CWeatherston was cross-examined for the entire day on Tuesday.

He told prosecutor Robin Bates he disputed some of the evidence of crown witnesses and denied making things up to paint Sophie Elliott in a bad light.

Weatherston's re-examination by his defence counsel will begin on Wednesday morning.

The defence also plans to call two psychiatrists to give evidence.
