Cross-examination of murder accused Clayton Weatherston will continue in the High Court at Christchurch on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old admits stabbing Sophie Elliott 216 times at her Dunedin home in January last year but claims he was provoked and is guilty of manslaughter.
Weatherston finished giving his third day of evidence late Monday afternoon and was briefly cross-examined.
He recalled going around to Elliott's home, intending to return some gifts.
Weatherston told the court he had a knife with him as he carried one for self defence.
He said Elliott swore and lunged at him with scissors but doesn't remember much after that except for kneeling over her body with a pair of scissors which had gone through her throat.
Under cross examination he said he did not recall mutilating parts of Elliott's body and denied targeting areas of her beauty.
