Weather experts are predicting some restless nights ahead, as high humidity and raised night time temperatures take their toll.
The humid air coming in from the tropics will hit particularly the north and western areas of the North Island.
Our Weather Watch Centre head analyst, Philip Duncan, says in Auckland and other northern centres temperatures will most likely reach the low to mid 20s but, coupled with high humidity, will feel more like the high 20s.
Daytime highs on Sunday reached 30 degrees in Napier and Hastings and more hot air is expected on Monday.
In contrast daytime highs in Christchurch to Dunedin are struggling to reach double digits.
The expected high for Christchurch on Monday is just 11.
