The three activists who damaged the Waihopai spybase have so far racked up almost $55,000 in legal aid bills.

Adrian Leason, Peter Murnane and Sam Land were last month acquitted of charges of burglary and wilful damage, which related to their attack on the Blenheim facility.

The Legal Services Agency has released details of how much legal aid money has been paid to them so far.

Sam Land received more than $35,000, Adrian Leason's been paid more than $18,000, and Peter Murnane's bill is $260.

The agency says legal aid grants can include aid for costs other than lawyers' time, including expert witnesses, forensic tests, investigators and office costs.
