Volunteers are once again picking up their shovels and mucking in to help Christchurch clear up from Monday's powerful aftershocks.
The student volunteer army which was created in the aftermath of the September quake, is mobilising to help people in the eastern suburbs clear up.
Hundreds have logged on to Facebook to register their availability and also ask for assistance .
Louis Brown from the Social Innovation Trust, which helps organise the volunteers, told TV ONE's Breakfast more help is needed.
"We need a whole lot of new people, students have got exams right now," he said.
"It needs to be some younger people, some older people, all ages helping out. It's going to be another large campaign."
The focus of the clean up will be on the eastern suburbs which were again badly affected by liquefaction following the aftershocks.
Brown said the latest damage has taken an emotional toll on residents.
"It's hard to know how many of us have grieved and got beyond the grief from February let alone to grieve again... and then wake up and deal with the task at hand which is another big clean up."
He said volunteers need to make sure they are careful when helping out in the eastern suburbs as there is a lot of sewerage mixed in with the silt.
